4th of July Fireworks 7.4.08

I can't believe its 4th of July again. This year I had the fortune of being invited to a boat party. The plan was to enjoy the gorgeous California day drinking, eating and having some interesting conversations with some really cool people. Then at dusk, it was time to move the party to firework central. So Dan put on the captains hat, started the engine and gracefully maneuvered the party through the marina. We made it to our spot just in time to see the first fireworks glide through the air to meet their blinding destiny in the dark sky. Thanks to Dan and Michelle for such a memorable day.

LAX Terminal 6.23.08

This recording was captured at the Tom Bradley international terminal at LAX (Los Angeles Airport). The terminal was full of anxious travelers trying to pass time. It was early and we just passed through a thorough screening process, but I was happy because I was on my way to paradise.

Airplane 6.23.08

This audio was captured on an Alaska Air flight to Puerto Vallarta Mexico. My intention was to capture the ambiance inside a plane. The flight attendants were professional and kept everyone relaxed with their sparsely comedic spiel. I edited this clip to include the all too familiar safety procedures and the sound of a smooth landing.

Puerto Vallarta Rain 6.28.08

It was 3am and I woke up to the sound of rumbling thunder. I forced myself out of bed with the intention of capturing this rare phenomenon. I was excited! I live in Los Angeles, where rain is rare and thunder is is its long lost cousin. The rain has subsided, but you can still hear the heavy drops trickling down to a surface of their choice. Between the rolling booms of thunder you can also hear thunder of a different kind. It seems that 3am is not an odd time to have an argument. At first I was upset that my relaxing recording was ruined by the sound of people arguing. But then I realized how funny this was. I decided not edit out the argument, and left it in its original form, profanity and all. I hope you enjoy its presence as much as I did. Oh yeah, sorry for all the scratching. The mosquitoes were relentless that night.

Puerto Vallarta Waves 6.29.08

The sound of pounding waves is best described as organized noise. The ocean has been calm since I got here a few days back. This day was different, the waves were stronger than ever. The spray was prevalent, you could smell the salt in the humid air. A few people kept cool, dipping their feet in the swell. The female mosquitos kept me company once again. I am annoyed, I imagine that my blood is irresistible.

Maintaining Riu Vallarta 6.29.08

This morning I woke up with the sun. I found myself walking to the beach, surrounded my an army of cleaning ladies wearing pale blue uniforms. They were out there, quietly doing their job, cleaning the mess that we made the day before. You can hear them mopping the sand encrusted floors, organizing the silverware, and vacuuming the lobby. With birds chirping from above, the pool boy patiently filters out the muck from the calm water. It's still early, the guests are resting up for yet another fun day in the sun. I hope they appreciate the hotel staff.
